How did we get here?

A connection occurs when two people show their true selves to each other and experience a profound sensation that goes beyond enjoying a conversation or spending a long time with someone. True connection is an instant feeling based on honesty and presence.

Author and motivational speaker Dan Foxx shares in his talk a life-changing lesson that he learned from a conversation with bestselling author Dr. Leonardo Buscaglia who dedicated his life to contemplating human disconnectedness and the meaning of life. One of Dr. Buscaglia’s main statements is: “Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” (Buscaglia, 1972).

The ring contains 20 individual action cards which are designed to be kept on the back of the phone case or simply carried around as a reminder. Actions are based on learning to listen and acknowledge the presence of people around. They also help to build up self-confidence and reduce feelings of loneliness.

An example of a challenge would be: “give a tight hug to one person who you highly appreciate and let them know how grateful you are to have them”. By practicing the skill of empathy, inevitably we encounter insights that help us grow and free ourselves of the judgment of others and ourselves. Certain challenges might feel uncomfortable, but stepping out of the comfort zone is necessary for boosting self-esteem and strengthening our mental resilience.
